Ingredients
12
oz
fresh cranberries
1
cup
granulated sugar
1
cup
water
1
vanilla bean
split and scraped (or 1 tsp vanilla extract)
1
orange
zested and juiced
0.5
tsp
ground cinnamon
0.25
tsp
ground ginger
a pinch
salt
Instructions
Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water and discard any that are bruised or soft.
In a medium saucepan, combine water and sugar over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
Add the rinsed cranberries to the saucepan and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to low and stir in the scraped seeds of the vanilla bean, orange zest, orange juice, cinnamon, ginger, and salt.
Simmer the mixture for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened.
Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
Once cooled, taste and adjust sweetness if necessary by adding more sugar if you prefer a sweeter sauce.
Transfer to a serving dish or airtight container. Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Notes
Allow the sauce to cool before serving for the best flavor.
